Dr Melissa Claus
Dr Melissa Claus graduated from the University of Florida and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Following graduation, Dr Claus completed a small animal internship at the University of Pennsylvania before undertaking a residency in emergency and critical care at the University of California Davis. She subsequently spent over ten years as an academic at the Murdoch University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she taught veterinary students and trained specialist candidates in emergency and critical care whilst conducting research in transfusion medicine, shock, and fluid therapy. She has since developed a haemodialysis programme at The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University, with plans to establish a similar programme at her current institution. Her interest in extracorporeal organ support — encompassing dialysis and therapeutic plasma exchange — led her to complete an intensive programme in the theory and practical application of extracorporeal therapies through the Hemodialysis Academy at the University of California Davis.
