Dr Patrick Maguire graduated from the University of Sydney, receiving awards in diagnostic imaging and communication during his studies. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in Small Animal Surgery (DACVS-SA). Following graduation, Dr Maguire spent nine years in the United States, where he completed his residency and trained under Dr Arnold Lesser, a pioneering surgeon credited with introducing European fracture repair techniques that are now standard practice across the country. He went on to obtain specialist qualification with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. His surgical expertise spans orthopaedic, soft tissue, and neurosurgery, with particular proficiency in joint surgeries, hip replacements, angular limb correction, and complex reconstructive procedures. His research has been published in the Journal of Veterinary Surgery, the Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, and the Journal of Veterinary Comparative Orthopaedics and Traumatology, and he has presented at national and international conferences on topics including angular limb deformity, wound healing, and radiographic positioning. He is a member of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
